Enough is an underrated word
The relationship between being enough, doing enough and having enough
In a culture of ‘optimizing’, constant growth and self-improvement – one word that is hugely underrated is ENOUGH.
We are all intrinsically enough. And recognising that means we don’t need external validation or future success to prove it.
The number of high-achieving individuals who feel internally unfulfilled despite external success is very high.
Success is therefore not synonymous with what we really want, which is to feel content and fulfilled.
When high achievers in particular struggle with not feeling ‘enough’ it bleeds into other areas.
The result? Overwork and a never-ending desire for more. The relationship between not feeling ‘enough’ while simultaneously doing too much and failing to recognise when they have ‘enough’ is a prolific phenomenon.
What’s the answer? To recognise we always were enough – but identifying with the voice in our head frequently convinces us otherwise. Notice the voice – but don’t take it too seriously.
I thoroughly en joyed speaking to Becky Hall, author of ‘The Art of Enough’, about this exact phenomenon.
We touched on boundaries, burnout, getting in sync with nature and the seasons, and questioned the cultural obsession with never-ending economic growth.
But it all starts with recognising that we are all innately enough, and always were!
